Building the data center infrastructure for Crowne Plaza presented unique challenges due to the constraints of operating within a premium five-star hospitality environment. The project required creating a secure, efficient, and highly available IT environment while maintaining operational standards and ensuring minimal impact on hotel services.

One of the primary challenges was securely accommodating 30 servers within limited available space while maintaining proper airflow, accessibility, and infrastructure compliance. Space planning had to support both current requirements and future operational flexibility.

The environment also required addressing fire safety and environmental protection concerns, as critical IT infrastructure needed protection from fire incidents, water leakage risks, and temperature fluctuations that could impact business continuity.

 

Another major challenge involved ensuring stable power availability and reducing the risk of disruptions to maintain continuous operations. Since hospitality environments demand uninterrupted service delivery, reliable backup and electrical infrastructure became essential.

 

Additionally, the limited maintenance area created challenges in supporting routine servicing and operational management without affecting the availability and performance of the data center environment.

 

  • Strategic Space Allocation: Designed a dedicated infrastructure layout with 3,000 sq.ft. allocated for the data center, 1,000 sq.ft. for UPS systems, and 2,000 sq.ft. for IT operations and support staff, ensuring efficient space utilization and improved accessibility.
  • Raised Flooring Infrastructure: Implemented 450mm raised flooring to support efficient airflow management for Precision Air Conditioning (PAC) systems while incorporating fire-resistant materials and insulation to improve environmental protection.
  • Reliable Electrical Setup: Established a stable power infrastructure with controlled redundancy and deployed two 40KVA Emerson UPS systems to provide uninterrupted power support and protect critical IT operations.
  • Advanced Safety Systems: Installed integrated safety and monitoring solutions including Siemens water leakage detection panels, VESDA systems, fire alarms, and fire suppression systems to strengthen environmental monitoring and infrastructure protection.
  • Optimized Cooling Architecture: Configured an N+1 PAC cooling model to maintain optimal environmental conditions, allow alternating operational cycles, improve cooling efficiency, and simplify maintenance activities without affecting uptime.

To overcome these challenges, a carefully designed and resilient data center infrastructure solution was implemented.
